Clinker NF, NVF and RG: how many per m² and how to count
Clinker is sold in whole boxes, and the shade drifts between batches, so buying “two more boxes” a month later is a bad idea. Count with an allowance from the start, by format.
Three formats
The range has 32 models K25–K62 in three formats. NF 240×71×10 mm is the classic brick slip: 50 pieces per m², 0.39 kg each, i.e. 19.5 kg/m², a box is exactly 1 m². NVF 295×85×22 mm is large and thick: 36 per m², 1.06 kg each, 38 kg/m², a box of 8 pieces — 0.2 m². RG 501×54×15 mm is the long “Riegel” slip: 32 per m², 0.95 kg each, 30 kg/m², a box of 16 pieces — 0.5 m². All models are to order; the manager confirms price and availability; the guide price for NF is about 54 ₾/m².
How many pieces per m²
The number depends on the joint. NF with a 10 mm joint — 49.4 pieces, with 12 mm — 47.8, with 6 mm — 52.8; the supplier counts 50, 36 and 32 pieces at an 8–10 mm joint. Joints narrower than 6 mm are not used on facades. Add 7 % to the cladding area for cutting, corners and breakage: 60 m² × 1.07 = 64.2 m². External corners without corner pieces are mitred at 45° — add a strip 0.25 m wide for the full height of each corner; reveals are counted separately as reveal width × length. Corner pieces for this series are to order separately; we check with the supplier.
Boxes and minimum order
We ship whole boxes only. Minimum: NF — 6 boxes (6 m²), NVF — 15 boxes (3 m²), RG — 8 boxes (4 m²). For 60 m² with the allowance you need 64.2 m²: NF — 65 boxes, NVF — 320 boxes, RG — 129 boxes. A pallet weighs about a tonne: NF — 975 kg for 50 m², RG — 1,280 kg; plan the unloading in advance.
Which format goes where
On an insulated wall with a rendered base coat the cladding is limited by the system: mass with adhesive and grout no more than 50 kg/m², element no larger than 0.36 m², thickness 5–20 mm. NF passes with a margin — 25–33 kg/m² with adhesive and grout. RG at 15 mm passes — about 40 kg/m². NVF at 22 mm thick does not fit these limits: it goes onto a solid substrate without insulation — concrete, brick, cement render — or by project with mechanical fixing. On stone wool, cladding is allowed only with the manufacturer's system solution with a confirmed delamination strength of the slab; the standard system is described on EPS.
What else is needed per m² on insulation
120 kg/m³ wool 100 mm — 41.90 ₾/m²; dowels 8 per m² with a steel nail through the fresh first reinforcing layer — 8L×170 for 100 mm wool on concrete, 0.73 ₾; 160 g/m² mesh in two layers — 2.2 m² per m² with overlaps, a 50 m² roll — 61.40 ₾. Clinker adhesive — a cement-based facade adhesive of class C2, applied the combined way: notched trowel on the wall and a thin layer on the slip, about 5 kg/m². Grout — a wide-joint frost-resistant grout for an 8–10 mm joint, for NF about 2.9 kg/m² at a 10 mm joint. Movement joints every 3.5 m vertically, with an elastic sealant. We do not sell mortars, grout, primer or sealant — they come from a mortar supplier; from stock come the slips, wool, dowels, mesh and corner beads.
Example for 100 m² of NF on 100 mm wool
Slips — 107 m², 107 boxes; 120 kg/m³ wool 100 mm — 49 packs — 4,435 ₾; 8L×170 dowels — 800 pcs, two packs — 730 ₾; 160 g/m² mesh — 233 m², 5 rolls — 307 ₾. The clinker is priced separately at the confirmed price; about 535 kg of adhesive, about 320 kg of grout and about 22 cartridges of sealant — from the mortar supplier.
Mistakes
- Counting without an allowance: a box bought later from another batch differs in shade.
- A joint narrower than 6 mm, or a narrow-joint grout (1–8 mm) in a 10 mm joint.
- Bonding onto a base coat that has not cured for 3–5 days, or with an interior tile adhesive.
- Above the ground floor without dowels through the reinforcing layer.
- NVF at 22 mm thick on insulation — outside the system limits for mass and thickness.
- No movement joints on a long wall — cracks across the slips in the first winter.
