Facade mesh, corner beads, membrane
Prices and stock — Tbilisi warehouse. Order online in a minute.
Mesh reinforces the plaster layer and stops it cracking when the facade moves or the temperature changes. For the base coat of a facade take mesh of 145 g/m² or heavier, and 160 g/m² on the plinth and ground floor, where the risk of impact is higher. The mesh must be alkali-resistant: ordinary fibreglass mesh is destroyed by the alkaline environment of cement mortar within a couple of seasons. A plaster corner bead with mesh keeps the geometry of outside corners and reveals — without it a corner gets knocked off at the first bump. The non-combustible A1 membrane is used in ventilated facades as wind protection with the fire classification required for tall buildings.

About this section: Facade mesh, corner beads, membrane
The reinforcing layer is what keeps a wet facade from cracking. Alkali-resistant Caucasus Building fibreglass mesh, 160 and 145 g/m², is embedded in the base adhesive layer over the insulation and takes up thermal and shrinkage stresses. Take 145 g/m² mesh for the base coat of a facade and 160 g/m² for the plinth and ground floor, where the risk of impact is higher. A 50 m² roll with a 100 mm overlap covers about 45 m² of facade, and the mesh calculator works this out automatically.
A plaster corner bead with mesh forms a straight outside edge at building corners, reveals and rustication grooves. It is embedded in the base layer together with the mesh sheet and protects the corner from chipping. Length 2.5 m, sold in packs of 50.
The non-combustible class A1 facade membrane is for ventilated facades: it shields the insulation from wind and rain, lets vapour out from inside and does not support combustion (class A1). It is fixed to the wool with disc dowels from the facade fixings section, with overlapped joints. Roll 75 m², white or black depending on the type of cladding.
If you are building a wet facade from scratch, the neighbouring sections supply the wool and dowels, and this one the mesh and corner beads; wool adhesive and render are recommended, but they are not in our range. The manager confirms stock, and delivery is calculated by address.

Frequently asked questions
What mesh density do I need?
145 g/m² for the base coat of a facade; 160 g/m² for the plinth and ground floor, where impacts are possible. For an anti-vandal layer, two layers of 160 are sometimes used.
How much mesh do I need for a facade?
About 1.1 m² of mesh per 1 m² of facade — allowing for an overlap of at least 10 cm (plus a 5% reserve). A roll holds 50 m².
Why does it have to be alkali-resistant?
Cement-based plaster creates an alkaline environment. Ordinary fibreglass mesh loses its strength in it within a season or two, and the reinforcement stops working.
