Roofing: membranes, vapour barriers, roof drains
Roll materials for roofs and walls come in two types, and they must not be mixed up. The vapour barrier Spanlite B and the reflective Izospan PROFF RF go on the warm side of the insulation and keep water vapour from the room out of it. The vapour-permeable membranes Spanlite AM and Izospan PROFF AQ 150 go on the cold side straight onto the insulation, protect it from wind and moisture and let vapour out. For ventilated facades that need non-combustibility there is Izospan PROFF AF+ on glass fabric, and for uninsulated and flat roofs the strong Spanlite D. The drains, pipe flashings and aerator are for flat roofs; the 70 or 100 mm diameter is chosen when ordering.

A roof build-up works as a single system: the vapour barrier keeps humid air from the house out of the insulation, while the diffusion membrane on the cold side protects the insulation from wind and moisture under the roof covering and lets vapour out. The vapour barrier (Spanlite B, or the reflective Izospan PROFF RF) goes on the warm side of the insulation; Spanlite D is a strong vapour and water barrier for uninsulated pitched and flat roofs and floors on concrete. The wind- and waterproof membranes Spanlite AM and Izospan PROFF AQ 150 are laid straight onto the insulation, with no ventilation gap, and the non-combustible glass-fabric membrane Izospan PROFF AF+ is meant for hung ventilated facades. All materials are sold in rolls of 60 or 70 m²; density, roll width and vapour permeability are given in the name and description of each item.
For flat roofs the range has drains with vertical and horizontal (parapet) outlets, pipe flashings and a vent outlet with a cap: the flange of each part is built into the roof waterproofing layer. Drains and flashings come in 70 or 100 mm diameter, chosen when ordering; the aerator is made for a Ø70 mm pipe. Prices include VAT, warehouse in Tbilisi, delivery to your address.
Frequently asked questions
How does a vapour barrier differ from a vapour-permeable membrane?
A vapour barrier (Spanlite B, Izospan PROFF RF) keeps water vapour out of the insulation and goes on the warm side. A vapour-permeable membrane (Spanlite AM, Izospan PROFF AQ 150) does the opposite: it lets vapour out and protects the insulation from wind and moisture; it goes on the cold side.
Is a gap needed between the membrane and the insulation?
According to the description, Spanlite AM and Izospan PROFF AQ 150 are laid directly on the insulation, with no ventilation gap between them. For the reflective effect of Izospan PROFF RF, however, an air gap is needed on the metallised side.
Which diameter of drain or flashing should I choose?
The 70 or 100 mm diameter is given when ordering: it should match the pipe or riser the drain connects to, or the pipe that passes through the flashing. The aerator is made for a Ø70 mm pipe.
