Insulation dowels and frame anchors

Facade fixings hold the insulation to the wall and work with it as one system. IZL-T disc dowels with a thermal head and a steel nail go under a rendered facade: the thermal head removes the cold bridge that makes dots show through the finish. IZO dowels with a plastic nail are cheaper and meant for light substrates. Retaining washers are used when the insulation is fixed to timber. TSX-500 anchors carry high loads — up to 2000 kg pull-out from B25 concrete — and the TSX-500F version with a thermal-diffusion coating is for damp and corrosive environments. The dowel length is worked out as insulation thickness plus adhesive layer plus anchorage depth in the wall.

About this section: Insulation dowels and frame anchors
Tech-KREP facade fixings hold the insulation to the wall and carry the load of a ventilated facade into the base. The section has three types of product. IZL-T and IZO disc dowels press the wool or polystyrene slab to the wall: the 60 mm disc does not tear the slab, and the polyamide thermal head creates no cold bridge. TSX-500F facade anchors fix ventilated-facade brackets, railings and exterior windows where an ordinary dowel will not hold; TSX-500 is meant for dry rooms indoors and TSX-S for light and medium loads. RD plugs with a wide spiral thread are made specifically for aerated and foam concrete.
The most common mistake when ordering insulation dowels is the wrong length. It is worked out like this: insulation thickness, plus a 10 mm adhesive layer, plus anchorage into the wall of at least 50 mm in concrete and solid brick, 70 mm in hollow brick and 90 mm in aerated concrete. For 100 mm of wool on brick that comes to 160–170 mm; for 50 mm on concrete, 110 mm is enough. The dowel calculator picks the length for you — it only needs the insulation thickness and the wall material. Consumption: 6 pieces per square metre in the main wall field, 8 in the edge zone (1–2 m from the building edge), where the wind load is higher, and 12 above 25 m.
The TSX-500 anchor comes with two screw coatings. The electro-galvanized TSX-500 suits dry rooms indoors and temporary structures, while the thermal-diffusion TSX-500F holds outdoors without rusting — take it for ventilated-facade brackets, railings and damp rooms. The anchor length is chosen as bracket thickness plus 60–80 mm of embedment.
All fixings are sold in packs: IZL-T dowels in 400–1000 pieces depending on length, anchors in 50–250. The quantity per pack is shown on the product card. Disc dowels and retaining washers can be ordered in one order together with the wool and mesh from the neighbouring sections.
Guides to calculating and choosing
Frequently asked questions
How many dowels do I need per m² of insulation?
6 per m² in the main wall field, 8 in the edge zone (1–2 m from the building edge) and 12 above 25 m. The design sets the exact number, which depends on building height, wind load and the wall material.
What dowel length should I choose?
Add up the insulation thickness, the adhesive layer (about 1 cm) and the anchorage depth in the wall (5–9 cm depending on the substrate). For example, for 10 cm of wool on concrete an 8×160 or 10×160 mm dowel is usually taken.
How is IZL-T different from IZO?
IZL-T has a steel nail with a thermal head: it is stronger and does not create a cold bridge, and it goes under a rendered facade. IZO has a plastic nail: cheaper, but with a lower load capacity.
